Data Scientist

You will be part of the Eneco Energy Trading (EET) department and work in a dynamic trading environment. You will closely cooperate with other teams in EET including Portfolio Optimization and Sourcing & Pricing, and with other teams in Eneco, such as e.g. Fundamental Analysis, which is responsible for Eneco’s long term market scenarios. As part of the SPM team, you will help to further develop and maintain the integral portfolio model. This includes improving the existing model (e.g., by including other/more detailed risk factors) and expanding the model (e.g., including new technologies).

To communicate findings, a dashboard has been developed in PowerBI, which you will improve and maintain. On a day to day business you apply and improve your data science skills in the context of the energy market and portfolio management. You will process vast amounts of realized market and portfolio data, as well as data regarding future market and portfolio scenarios, and develop machine learning models. Thereby, you will contribute to discussions with (senior) management on strategy, risk and portfolio management. You will learn from experienced energy and data science colleagues in the SPM team.

We are expanding the SPM team with a junior/medior data scientist, who brings:

• strong analytical and modelling skills (Python)
• Master’s degree/PhD

• high in energy and initiative
• strong balance between technical and conceptual skills
• openness and flexibility
• some energy market experience and/or affinity
• 2-5 years of relevant experience

You will analyze the current and future portfolio and together with colleagues advise management on your findings (regarding e.g., the ratio of renewable capacity vs flexible capacity; key vulnerabilities of the envisaged portfolio; the impact of regulatory changes). We expect you to bring strong personal and analytical skills, and that you are eager to learn new skills in both portfolio management and data science.

The SPM team consists of 5 people and closely cooperates with other departments in EET and Eneco. The team is responsible for deveopment of the integral portfolio model as well as other quantitative models, such as demand forecating, battery optimization and steering of assets. The SPM team was set pu early 2023 and consists of energy market, data cience and portfolio management experts.
