As an Energy Trading Analyst, you’ll play a key role in supporting Eneco's trading activities through cutting-edge analysis and modelling

What you’ll do

The energy markets are evolving rapidly, and the energy transition's effects are becoming increasingly visible. We follow these changes closely and reflect them in our analysis and trading strategies. You will contribute to the commercial success of Eneco’s trading desk by performing best-in-class fundamental, market, and weather-driven analysis. Your work will provide actionable insights into the European gas, power, and carbon markets. Specifically, you will:

 

  • Monitor market news and policy developments and identify their impact on the market.
  • Analyze the fundamental drivers of the energy supply & demand balance. Translate this into a price view and sensitivity analysis.
  • Monitor weather developments and their impact on energy prices and trading strategies.
  • Built out a fundamental gas balance model and/or a power supply stack model used by the traders. 
  • Proactively explore new trade ideas and work with traders on their implementation.
  • Provide briefings for traders and other colleagues within Eneco Energy Trade.
  • Improve and develop new fundamental and statistical models and tools to be used in the trading activities of the desk.
  • Improve energy market and meteorological data landscape and add new data sources.
  • Help in monitoring and analyzing trading positions and PnL. Assist in the reporting and tooling responsibilities of the Trading Analysis team.

Is this about you?

 

You bring:

  • A degree (MSc or PhD) in a quantitative field. 
  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience in gas, power and/or carbon market analysis in a trading environment, an energy company, a hedge fund or a market research company. More senior candidates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Ideally experience with building & using fundamental and quantitative models of the European energy markets.
  • Good Python programming skills.
  • Your approach is analytical but also hands-on and pragmatic.
  • Energy Trade is a very dynamic environment. Targets change frequently based on market or business opportunities. A candidate should be flexible and focused at the same time.

You’ll be responsible for

  • You will have direct impact on trading decisions and strategies and work closely with our traders. This can include both discretionary and systematic trading strategies.
  • You will work on topics related to fundamental energy market analysis and modelling.
  • You will be involved in other topics to improve the capabilities of the desk, such as automating the trading process, adding new data sources, etc.

This is where you’ll work

You will be part of the Trading Analysis Team, located within Asset Backed Trading, which provides the primary analytical capabilities for the trading desk.  The team focuses on three areas: fundamental/market analysis, quantitative analysis, and algorithms. This role emphasizes fundamental and market analysis, with opportunities to collaborate closely with traders and deepen your understanding of energy markets. Due to its wide scope, our team comprises professionals with diverse backgrounds and experience, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

What we have to offer

Gross annual salary between €85.000 and €125.000

Including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, and depending on your role a bonus or collective profit sharing.
