Lead Data Scientist Energy Trade

We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist who will contribute to develop a strategy and vision in the field of data science for Eneco Energy Trade (EET). You are going to help us to build the foundation of the energy company of the future - a virtual power plant (VPP). The Eneco VPP (Myriad) has started development in Q2/21 and the platform will:

• Manage thousands of energy assets in real-time across 4 European countries (windfarms, batteries, fleets of electric vehicles, etc.);
• Process very large historic and real time datasets;
• Performing mission critical real time trading and asset dispatch optimizations to trade in the various energy markets;
• Already start operations in Q3/22; 

You will be part of EET and you will work in a dynamic trading environment. The development of the Virtual Power Plant is just the start of the transition of our department. Data science will play an essential role in the future and the opportunities are countless. You play a role in creating a data (science) driven organization and build the organization of the future.

 The big challenge is: how are we going to leverage the vast data sets to optimize the trading results of these thousands of assets, in real time? You will be leading the development and implementation optimization models and architecture within the platform. You will be able to create your own team with the required experts.

• Developing the core optimization models and optimization architecture for Myriad;
• Managing parallel tracks of improving models in the production environment and setting up exploration projects to develop new models/approaches;
• Effectively using a variety of Data Science techniques to innovate and improve, exploring the range from today's traditional LP approach to advanced ML frameworks and approaches;
• Collaborating with hardware, software and data engineers who are building the platform and the underlying ML Ops, Cloud and streaming platform;
• Collaborating closely with the end-users of Myriad (energy traders & energy operators) who often also have a deep quantitative background;
• Collaborating and receiving support from the central data science team in Eneco;
• Drive the Myriad data-science roadmap and supervision;
• Develop and build the Myriad Data Science team, support recruitment, train and mentor;
• Lead the Myriad Data Science area and be a hands-on contributor;
• Lead discussions with business stakeholders in generating new innovative ideas and improvements to existing models ;
• Help shape future data-science within Eneco Energy Trade more broadly;
• Build partnerships around the world to further improve the Myriad platform and increase innovation speed.

 

You have experienced different learning curves and know how to adapt quickly and make use of new situations. You have the guts to make decisions, you are energetic and you have a positive attitude and drive for change and execution. These make that you realize targets in an environment that is changing more and more rapidly.

 You also bring in:

• A Master degree (or higher) in the field of Data Science (Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Analytics);
• 5+ years hands-on experience in data science and data driven software development;
• Experience delivering full E2E data science projects, using very large data sets;
• Experience with cloud-based ecosystems (Azure, AWS);
• Knowledge of scripting languages (Python or R), data querying languages, ML frameworks, Optimisation frameworks;
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills;
• Broad network in the field of data science.
